Attempted brazen theft at car lot
We're told thieves attempted to steal a number of vehicles from an auction car lot in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An early morning theft attempt turned into something more like a scene from a movie, according to witnesses.

It all started around 2am at a vehicle storage lot on Kopman Drive at Neuhaus Avenue in southeast Houston near Hobby Airport.

Thieves cut a hole in the fence, entered the facility, fanned out and started several vehicles. They tried to ram a fence to try to make their getaway, with a large truck in the lead, followed by some smaller sports cars. But when they couldn't get through the fence, the truck backed up and gave it another go, ultimately becoming stuck in an embankment.

Security guards and police officers soon arrived, and the thieves took off on foot.

A wrecker driver described the scene as a madhouse, with people on the ground scattering like ants while a police helicopter hovered overhead.

There's no word if any arrests were made.
