Family wants driver to be held accountable after 7-year-old killed while riding skateboard
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The family of a 7-year-old boy who was riding his skateboard when he was hit and killed by a car wants the driver of the vehicle to be held accountable.
Delisia Harris said her son, Jessiah, made an "A" on his spelling test Tuesday and wanted to go outside with his brother.
"And the school took a picture, he was so proud, and he said 'Mommy I can do it, I have confidence now. I have confidence that I can make you another hundred,'" Harris said.
Harris said the tragedy happened in the span of 10 minutes.
Jessiah's older brother, 11-year-old Shemar, said he saw the whole thing.
"He was on his knees like this, then after he got there, he stood up and the lady came flying by and hit him and then I just heard a loud scream and I saw her pull him from under the car," Shemar said. "And then I started pumping his chest, saying you're OK, and he reached up his arms and said 'I love you Shemar.'"
Jessiah was pronounced dead at the hospital. Harris said she wants the driver to be held accountable.
"She was negligent. I never said she intentionally meant to do it, so I'm not calling her a murderer, but I'm saying that she is negligent and I will not stop until she is gonna be charged for that," Harris said.
According to the Houston Police Department, the Vehicular Crimes Division is still investigating.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged.
