BATTLE CREEK, MI (KTRK) -- A father and son were attacked by three men after they responded to a fake Craigslist ad.
Police said Robert Vanderwiel, 72, and his son, Jon Vanderwiel, 42, from Grand Rapids went to Battle Creek to buy a car that they found on Craigslist. But, police said three men attacked them where they were supposed to close a deal on the car, ABC affiliate WZZM-TV reports.
But Jon Vanderwiel didn't come unprepared. He had a gun and ended up shooting two of the attackers before all three suspects got away.
Police said one of the alleged attackers later called 911 from a nearby McDonald's restaurant to say he had been shot. Police found the other wounded man at a house. Both were transported to a local hospital for what police called non life-threatening injuries.
A third man was found a short time later. WZZM-TV says the suspects are 23, 20 and 19-years-old. Charges against them are pending.
