Katy customers say they got bad gas
Several drivers pumped what they thought was gasoline into their cars at the RaceWay on Westgreen neat I-10

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- Several drivers pumped what they thought was gasoline into their cars at the RaceWay on Westgreen neat I-10 in Katy, but come to find out, they filled up with diesel.

"It's been an inconvenience to say the least," says James Sprague.

He says his wife filled up at the Raceway Wednesday morning.

"She works in the Heights and she didn't even make it to work before the car start acting up," he added.

The Chrysler 300 just stopped running. Sprague says he had the car towed to the dealership where they found the issue. His wife didn't put unleaded gas in her car. She filled up with diesel.

"Somebody's gonna pay for this," Sprague thought.

Eyewitness News stopped by the store Monday night, but workers referred us to the corporate office. A spokesperson sent us this statement apologizing.

"The RaceWay team apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused our Katy neighbors. If a guest feels our gas has caused damage to their car or they have any issues or questions about their experience, they can contact our Guest Relations hotline by calling 1-888-636-5589 and we will make it right. We have fully resolved the issue and the pumps are now 100 percent operational."

We're told somehow the underground tanks were supplied with diesel instead of gas. Raceway is investigating to see how it happened and how many drivers got diesel. Mechanics at one dealership told me they had six cars with the same problem.

It's not a quick fix.

"You have to drop the tanks, clean out the fuel filters and a lot of times we have to change the fuel pumps and then you have to open that entire fuel system to make sure all that stuff is gone," said Sean Dick of Gary's Tire and Auto.
