WEBSTER, TX (KTRK) -- A DPS trooper that was badly injured in a drunk driving crash has returned home in time for Thanksgiving.

Trooper Chad Blackburn was seriously injured in September after a suspected drunk driver hit his patrol car. According to DPS officials, Blackburn was sitting on the shoulder of the road along I-45 near NASA Road 1, patrolling for Labor Day speeders and drunk drivers. It was around 1:45am when a red Mercedes struck the rear of his patrol car.

Tuwanna Moore, 31, is charged with intoxication assault and causing bodily injury to an officer.

DPS says getting Blackburn home was a community effort.

"If it wasn't for the community and the outreach of other law enforcement entities, Trooper Chad Blackburn probably wouldn't have had the success of the recovery process that he had today," Sgt. Stephen Woodard said.
