Detectives investigating murder-suicide in NW Harris County
Investigators say the probe started as a welfare check at a home in the Katy area.

HOUSTON -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder-suicide in the Katy-area.

The husband and wife were found in one of the bedrooms after deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to a house in the 3000 block of Meadow Field Street for a welfare check. We're told this is not the first time they were called to this house this year.

Harris County deputies discovered a grisly scene inside a home.

"They located black male and a black female who suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the head inside the residence. It appears to be a murder suicide," Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ben Beall said.

Sgt. Ben Beall says the husband sent a text to his wife's ex to come pick up their 14-year-old daughter. One relative told Eyewitness News off camera that the texts indicated something bad was about to happen.

"When they got here they felt like something was probably wrong. They didn't wanna make entry into the house. So they had a sheriff's office unit meet them out here," Beall said.

They found the couple in a bedroom. Sgt. Beall says they hope to know for sure Thursday who shot who. But what they know already.

"There's an extensive history of family violence," Beall said.

And he says it's on both sides. Authorities haven't released their names, but tell us the wife was 39 and the husband was 49. We looked up the names one relative confirmed and found the wife had been charged twice with assaulting a family member. Both charges were dismissed. The husband was sentenced to two years of deferred adjudication probation for assaulting his wife last year.

"It goes back, the farthest back I could find was '09. And as recently as January 3," Beall said.

But this was the final call, the one we're told family feared would come.
