Deputy accused of hitting, choking girlfriend as she slept

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A deputy is facing the wrong side of the law, accused in a domestic violence case.

On Friday, March 29, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's domestic violence unit was called to investigate a family disturbance. Frank Augustine, Jr., is accused of physically assaulting his live-in girlfriend as she slept in bed. According to authorities, he struck her in the head with a motorcycle helmet, and choked her, causing pain and injuries.

Frank Augustine, Jr., who is employed as a Harris County Sheriff's deputy, was arrested and taken into custody at the scene without incident. He's charged with assault of a family member by strangulation, a third degree felony. Bond was set at $5,000. An emergency protection order was granted for the complainant.
