HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies are being honored for their heroism, after pulling a man from a burning vehicle earlier this month.

It happened a little before midnight on March 20 in north Harris County. The deputies say a 21-year-old man was driving northbound on Ella when he lost control, left the roadway and hit a tree. The Grand Am he was driving caught fire.

Deputies C. Crouch and C. Atkinson were sent to the scene and, with the help of bystanders, pulled the driver side door open and pulled the driver out of the vehicle.

The driver was on fire, so the Crouch and Atkinson rolled him on the ground put out the flames. He was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
