The driver is a fellow high school student.

It happened before 7am Wednesday morning on Krenek Road.

The road was very dark at the time and accident investigators say the young victim was wearing dark colored clothes and was in the middle of the west bound lanes.

The 18-year-old who was hit was taken to Hermann Hospital by Lifeflight helicopter.

Family members say the victim was a special needs student who typically takes a bus to Crosby High School, but Wednesday morning, he was on his skateboard.

Lisa Carter said, "He's out here a lot and he does play on his skateboard. I have never seen him up and down on the road on his skateboard."

The driver of the truck that hit the young man is also a student at Crosby High School.

Deputies are still investigating the accident, but say it seems unlikely any charges will be filed against that 16-year-old driver.

Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Roger Swaney said, "The boy driving the truck advised that he did not see him until right at the last minute and he was toward the middle of the road and struck him."

The road is very busy in the morning, and typically no kids walk this route to school.
