Two men use a shopping cart to escape after they burglarize an officer's home

The two men are first seen in this surveillance video around 3am near a set of railroad tracks.

HPD Investigator Edgard Cerpas pointed out, "He enters from Liberty Road."

The men were strolling as if on a casual shopping spree. One was wearing a boonie type hat and all white, the second all dark clothing.

This night out didn't seem to be well planned. Police believe the men didn't know there were surveillance cameras on them.

"They are being cautious. So it makes me feel like they have done it before," said Officer Cerpas.

They gained entry pulling a panel off the house and started stealing tools, and whatever else they could find including rims, ramps and a car jack. But this wasn't Home Depot, the homeowner is a Houston Police Officer.

"This goes to show no matter who you are you could be a victim of this kind of crime. Anytime," said Officer Cerpas.

You can see their teamwork when they carry a large generator towards the railroad tracks. It appears they didn't plan a check out strategy. They are seen walking back and forth.

"The fact they waited so long and they put the items on the ditch and then they waited and left. They were looking for something to put the items in, they waited, and they put them in the street, that's odd," said Officer Cerpas.

Police say the getaway was very unusual. The vehicle was a shopping cart. One suspect has a tattoo on his left arm. If you have any information call Houston Police.
