Classmates gather outside to pray for freshman Adriana Coronado
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Monday marks the first day back for students at Mayde Creek High School after their fellow classmate was reported missing and found murdered. Before classes resumed, about 100 students gathered outside the front door to pray for freshman Adriana Coronado.
Students held hands, bowed their heads and circled around a flagpole, while the flags fly at half-staff in remembrance of Adriana. The ceremony lasted about ten minutes. Many students wore black in honor of the 14 year-old.
In a letter emailed to parents while students were on spring break, Dr. Cazilda Steele, Principal of Mayde Creek High School, writes:
"We ask that you please join us as we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the family as they mourn their loss.
Grief counselors will be on campus on Monday to help our school community deal with this loss. We will be doing everything we can to help your child and our staff through this heartbreaking experience."
For most of last week, Adriana was the center of a nationwide Amber Alert.
