Church service cut short by fire
Everyone evacuated safely after someone noticed the smell of smoke

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A church service was cut short and a congregation was forced to evacuate after a fire broke out in southwest Houston.

The late night mass was being held on West Orem and Lawnhaven when someone smelled smoke.

Everyone got out safely. But the church is dealing with some serious damage.

The fire appears to have started at the rear of the church and spread to the attic. No word yet on what may have started it.
