NEW CANEY, TX (KTRK) -- A little boy is in the hospital after a fire broke out this morning in Montgomery County.

The fire continues to burn in the 20500 block of Dry Creek Road around 10:30am.

The boy is being treated for smoke inhalation.

It appears the fire broke out in a brush or garbage fire in the yard.

Three people were inside a home when the fire broke out.

Chief Jeff Taylor, of the East Montgomery County Fire Department, said, "There's no fire hydrant in this area, so (we are used to) bringing our water with us as much as possible. We had the assistance of of our neighboring fire departments, Caney Creek and Porter fire departments."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home is a total loss, firefighters say.

The fire chief says the child is expected to be OK.
