HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A child was transported to the hospital after being struck by a car in northwest Harris County Monday afternoon.

It happened in front of a home in the 7500 block of Silent Wood Lane at Rapid River. A neighbor was backing out of her driveway when she experienced some confusion between the gas and brake pedals, and backed all the way into a neighbor's yard.

A group of children were walking on the sidewalk, and most of them managed to get out of the way, except for one boy, about five years old, investigators said.

"She said, 'They just killed my brother, they just killed my brother! I was like, 'Who did?' I looked that way and she said, 'He's under the car,' so I ran back inside to grab my phone and I called the cops," said Daisy Borja, who called 911.

Witnesses say the boy became trapped under the car.

Jose Solis was coming home from work when he saw the boy under the car and ran to get a jack to help free the child.

"Tried to save boy, save a life. It's all I know. We need to save a life. It's the only thing I'm thinking," he said.

Solis says he doesn't consider himself a hero, and just hopes the boy will be OK.

The child is said to have massive head injuries and deputies say he was listed in critical condition at last report. A close family friend said his mother and siblings are there, hoping he will make it.

No charges are expected to be filed in this tragic accident. The driver's husband says his wife is very upset, but did not comment further.
