HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A child was rushed to the hospital after he was found unresponsive in a pool at a southeast Houston hotel.

It happened just before 8pm at the Houston Inn and Suites in the 2000 block of South Wayside.

taken to Texas Children's Hospital but is expected to be OK. We're told he's between the ages of 6 and 8.

Houston police didn't have the boy's exact age, but say he's somewhere between six and eight. We're told he was at the pool with relatives, but at some point he was unattended. That's when he went under.

The boy was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital. The good news, according to officers on the scene, is that he was coughing and crying at the hospital, and is expected to be OK.

We could be telling you a much different story if it wasn't for the quick thinking of 18-year-old Devin Butler. The Army Reservist was swimming from the deep end of the pool to the shallow end when he noticed something was wrong.

"I saw the little guy in the water. I thought he was just holding his breath. So I got up, and I noticed he was under there for a little bit too long to be holding his breath. So I picked him up and asked whose kid it was," Butler said.

Butler says he thought the kid was dead when he pulled him out so knowing that the child is going to be OK is all that matters to him.

Houston police are still out here trying to figure out how this happened, and who was supposed to be watching the boy. Something relatives have also been trying to sort out.
