Child pulled from pool in NW Harris County
CPR was being performed on the child

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after being discovered by friends at the bottom of a northwest Harris County pool Friday.

Authorities say about 20 children were in the pool near Red Oak Lane at Westbrook Oaks Way when the incident occurred.

"The water is not real clear. It's kinda murky looking," said Precinct 4 Harris County Constable Mark Herman. "They couldn't physically see him at the bottom."

The children alerted an adult, who then pulled that child from the water. As they did, others called 911. Herman says a deputy constable was on scene in a little over a minute.

Riding with that deputy constable happened to be a clerk from the Precinct 4 Constable's Office, who is a certified EMT. She started CPR on the child until paramedics and Life Flight arrived.

The child was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. At last check the boy was in critical condition but his blood pressure had stabilized, and he was breathing on his own with little assistance from the respirator.

Detectives are still investigating the case to determine if there might be any criminal charges resulting from this incident.
