Child dies after being struck by SUV in SE Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A local family is grieving after a 5-year-old boy was hit by an SUV and later died.

The accident happened Saturday afternoon along Southington near Crestridge in southeast Houston. Police say the boy was riding his bike along a sidewalk when he darted out into the street and was hit by an SUV. Police also say the boy's grandmother was walking about 20 feet behind him.

"He's a sweet little boy. He's sweet and now to lose a baby up in our family, it is hard," said victim's cousin Mildred Simon.

Officers call this an accident and do not think the driver will face charges.
