A Philadelphia woman who is accused of leaving her 21-year-old disabled son in the woods for days remains hospitalized along with her son.

COBBS CREEK, PA -- The mother of a quadriplegic man who was abandoned in the woods is now facing an attempted murder charge.

Philadelphia police on Tuesday added that count to a list of other charges against Nyia Parler, 41.

She is accused of leaving her 21-year-old alone in a wooded area of Cobbs Creek.

Her son has cerebral palsy, has to use a wheelchair and has no verbal communication skills.

According to authorities, Parler left the young man on the ground with only a blanket and a Bible. He had been there for days before being discovered on Friday.

Police say she went to visit her boyfriend in Maryland after leaving her son in the woods.

Parler remains hospitalized in Maryland for an undisclosed reason, but will be extradited to Philadelphia once she recovers.

She is also facing charges for aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, kidnapping, false imprisonment and related offenses.

Her son was recovering at the hospital after being treated for dehydration, malnutrition and abrasions.
