DEER PARK, TX (KTRK) -- A junior high school student is in the hospital after collapsing after a soccer game in Deer Park Saturday.

According to Deer Park ISD, the Fairmont Junior High student was with his teammates shaking hands with players from Deepwater Junior high when he collapsed. At this point, it's not clear why.

A nurse who had been watching the game administered aid to him, while an employee got the stadium's AED, which was used to revive the student.

After two rounds of compressions, the boy was able to breathe on his own. Life Flight was called to transport him to the hospital.

The district says the boy was in intensive care in stable condition at last check.
