HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man is dead after a two-vehicle accident this morning at Beltway 8-West northbound at Clay Road.

Three feeder road lanes were closed by the crash and traffic piled up at the intersection all morning. The accident is now clear.

The 50-year-old man who has not been identified was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD says an HPD motorcycle officer, escorting an oversized yellow crane, stopped all traffic at the intersection of Clay Road and the North Sam Houston Parkway East service road. As the crane was proceeding northbound through the intersection, the driver of a silver Dodge Caravan, traveling westbound on Clay Road, struck the front boom of the crane.

The victim, a rear seat passenger in the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the crane was not injured in the crash.
