HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are looking for the driver of a car they say hit a woman crossing the street in downtown Houston.

It happened around 10:30pm last night in the crosswalk of Fannin at Pierce.

Witnesses say the driver was in a black car and hit the woman. The driver never stopped.

The impact of the crash threw the victim about 15 feet. She was rushed to the hospital and is still alive, but her condition is unknown.

Witnesses managed to get the license plate of the vehicle, and officers tracked that vehicle down. However, the driver is still nowhere to be found. Officers are now staking out the vehicle in hopes of catching the driver when he or she returns.
