SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A former Spring firefighter is charged with impersonating a firefighter and theft after authorities say they found he was using department equipment to make people think he was still a firefighter.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office says Jerome Pitts, 20, of Spring, used fire department identification, fire department clothing, and a stolen radio to mislead citizens that he was still a firefighter after he was fired in 2014.

Court records allege Pitts was conducting ride-alongs after he was fired from his position.

HCFMO says the radio and other items were recovered from Pitts.
