HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Volunteers looking for signs of a missing man made a grisly discovery this weekend.

Members of Texas EquuSearch were looking for a man who's been missing for about six weeks, and while they were canvassing along the 2900 block of Katy Freeway at about 10:30am Sunday, they discovered human remains. Police investigators confirm the lower torso of a human was found. It's unknown if the remains are male or female.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine an identity of a victim and cause of death.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
