HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston Fire Department ambulance was stolen and wrecked this morning.

Houston police say the vehicle was stolen near a Greyhound bus terminal just after 10am in the 2100 block of Main.

Officers later located the stolen rig wrecked and abandoned in Montrose on Waugh at Gray.

Houston police tell us the ambulance was on a call at the bus station when the suspect jumped into the ambulance and drove off. He drove just west of downtown for several minutes before crashing into a moving truck. He abandoned the vehicle, but police say they arrested him in the area.

The passenger side of the rig is totally destroyed, including the side service door.
