Today is World Wildlife Day.
Back in 2013, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 3rd of each year as World Wildlife Day. World leaders chose this date because it also the same date as the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
In honor of World Wildlife Day, I wanted to tell you about a local organization working to protect our "urban" wildlife in the Houston area.
TWRC Wildlife Center is supported by numerous volunteers and staff to promote environmental conservation through public education and rehabilitation of Texas wildlife.
And they have all kinds of way you can get involved! During the Spring, the center helps care for baby birds and other baby animals that are injured or abandoned. TWRC has upcoming volunteer training classes so you can learn to take care of our urban wildlife.
I participated for several seasons in their Baby Bird Program. It's an amazing experience. I learned so much about birds (what the different species eat, how they behave, etc).
