HOUSTON -- Whether you are planning a romantic evening out on the town or staying in, nothing says "I love you" better than homemade treats! Your special valentine will definitely feel loved with these swirled Valentine's cookies by crafty blogger Adeina Anderson.

Items Needed

Cookies

Wilton cookie icing - white, red, pink

Wilton crinkle cookie cutter

Toothpicks

Wilton Ready to Decorate Icing - white, red, pink

White sugar pearls

I used my very easy chocolate shortbread cookie dough for these cookies.

1 Cup of Gold Medal flour

1/4 Cup of Nestle Cocoa

1/4 Tsp of salt

1/2 Cup of Land O Lakes butter

1/2 Cup of powdered sugar

1/4 Tsp of vanilla extract

First, preheat your oven to 350. In one bowl, mix the flour, cocoa and salt and set it aside. Combine the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.

Add the vanilla and mix, keeping the mixer going, add the flour mixture a little at a time until you have added it all. Take half of the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.

Flour your heart cookie cutters and cut out various sizes of hearts.

Place the hearts on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes, check the cookies after 8 minutes to see if they are done.

Let the cookies cool on a baking sheet for about 30 minutes until they are completely cooled.

Outline the top of the cookie with the ready to decorate icing, let it dry for a couple of minutes. Fill in the cookie outline with the cookie icing in one color and make dots in a heart shape or other shape with another color. Use the toothpick to pull the dots through to create a heart or a swirl. Let the icing dry and place the cookie in a decorative bag or on a Valentine plate.
