Early this morning, HPD told Eyewitness News the child was grazed by the bullet. Now it appears he was somehow hurt in the head during the chaos, possibly by flying glass.

This all happened just before 11:20 p.m., at the Mainridge Apartments on Westridge Street near Hearth Drive.

A sliding glass door was left shattered, and all the lights were on inside the apartment unit when our camera crews arrived.

Neighbor Marvin McGee said he heard about six or seven shots, and then the boy's mother came out running, screaming for help.

"She's like, 'Oh my God! He's been shot! He's been shot!'" McGee said. "At that point, we thought he was shot, but it was just glass from the shooting."

The shooter or shooters took off, and police are still looking for them.

McGee said he didn't see the person or hear a car take off.

It is unclear if the family was targeted in the shooting.
