ROCKWELL, North Carolina -- A North Carolina deputy has been arrested after investigators say he attempted to rob a bank while he was off duty Tuesday afternoon.
Police tell WSOC Jeff Athey walked into the bank with a semi-automatic weapon and demanded cash.
Nobody was hurt, but witnesses say he pulled a gun on a teller.
Athey was caught four minutes later.
He is being held on a $500,000 bond. Athey has also been fired from his job.
