CHICAGO, IL -- Two military parachute jumpers were seriously injured during their performances at the Chicago Air and Water Show, police said.

One jumper landed on the beach and the other landed in 1400 block of N. Lake Shore Drive and Schiller Street around 10:30am Saturday, police said. Both were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition.

No other details have been released.

CROWDS GATHER EARLY ALONG LAKEFRONT

Crowds gathered along Chicago's lakefront to claim their spots early Saturday morning.

Michelle Carter, from Aurora, says she's been coming to the show with her family for 25 years.

"It is something my husband enjoys and we wanted to pass it on to the kids and they just love it," she said. "They love being out here on the beach and playing in the water, seeing the planes. We're just a military family, so that's why we do it year after year."

The show, now in its 57th year, draws veterans and rookies alike.

"I want to see some great stunts by the Blue Angels, I can't wait to see what's going to happen on the water - as far as I can remember, this is my first one," said Cody Buchanan, an attendee.

HOT, HUMID WEATHER ACROSS THE AREA

Saturday's weather will be very hot and humid, so attendees are encouraged to wear hats or bring umbrellas and wear sunscreen to protect themselves from the sun. ABC7 Meteorologist Troy Christensen says there's also a possibility for isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.

"We monitor it, keep track of it, if it becomes an issue we slow down the show or we can slide the show down a little bit. But right now we've got blue skies and hot sun," said John Trick, manager, Chicago Air and Water Show.

The show will take place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at North Avenue Beach, although visitors can also see the show from other points nearby on the lakefront. Fullerton Beach is currently closed due to shoreline construction.
