HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Children At Risk released the "Top Schools in Houston" this morning.

Schools are measured by achievement, performance and growth indicators, as well as college readiness.

The statewide non-profit analyzed 1,159 public high schools, including 171 in the greater Houston area.

Research was completed on 303 middle schools and 857 elementary schools in the greater Houston area.

The top five middle and elementary schools and top ten high schools were recognized.


Top 10 Public High Schools in Houston

1. Debakey High School for Health Professions (Houston ISD)

2. Carnegie Vanguard High School (Houston ISD)

3. Eastwood Academy (Houston ISD)

4. Clear Horizons Early College High School (Clear Creek ISD)

5. Challenge Early College High School (Houston ISD)

6. High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Houston ISD)

7. Yes Prep - Southwest (Yes Prep Public Schools Inc.)

8. Kerr High School (Alief ISD)

9. Clear Lake High School (Clear Creek ISD)

10. Seven Lakes High School (Katy ISD)

Gold Ribbon Neighborhood High Schools

High schools that are neither a charter nor magnet, have a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students, and rank highest on the overall rankings.

1. Sharpstown High School (Houston ISD)

CHILDREN AT RISK also researched and ranked 303 middle schools and 857 elementary schools in the greater Houston area. In ranking these schools, researchers analyzed STAAR performance and average Reading and Math gains and losses, and adjusted for the percentage of economically disadvantaged students at each campus.
