TEXAS CITY, TX (KTRK) -- The Texas Education Agency has announced the Texas City Independent School District will annex La Marque ISD, effective July 1, 2016.
"We respect the commissioner's decision, and we are prepared to move forward with the annexation process in a way that benefits both communities and all students," said TCISD Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lusignolo.
TCISD says to help facilitate this transition, TCISD will be hosting a Parent and Community Meeting in the gymnasium at Carver Recreation Center on Thursday, December 10, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This will be one of several public meetings that will be held as TCISD plans for the upcoming school year. Carver Center is located in Carver Park at 6615 Park Avenue.
Prior to the December 10 meeting, TCISD says it wants to give both communities the opportunity to ask questions. People can email their questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. The questions, along with TCISD responses, will be posted on the TCISD website at www.tcisd.org under the heading announcements, accroding to TCISD.
Lusignolo said, "Although it's early in the planning process, we want to assure both communities that we value neighborhood schools and the long, proud tradition of the La Marque Cougars and the Texas City Stingarees. With this in mind, students will continue to attend their neighborhood schools for the 2016-2017 school year."
