Survey: 59-percent of retailers still don't have chip card machines

It's now been a month into the nation's move to chip cards, but many retailers are still making the transition.

According to a survey by TD Bank, only 41-percent of merchants have installed the equipment to use the smart cards since the October 1st deadline.

Retailers claim the timing of the switch couldn't be worse. They claim the new checkout terminals work slower, which makes for long lines as the year-end holiday season begins.

Small businesses also say the transition is costly for them in both time and money. They also don't have the technical support large companies do.
