HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Buffalo Bayou Park's $58 million dollar makeover is finally complete as Houstonians were able to get their first look at the park Saturday morning.

The grand re-opening was held along Buffalo Bayou near Sabine Street near downtown Houston. City leaders held a ribbon ceremony to re-open the park.

Improvements to bridges, trails and lighting are some of the new additions to the more than 100 acres along the Bayou. A dog park, play area and Visitors Center were also added.

Park supporters said the improvements exceeded expectations. Houston Mayor Annise Parker said the park is a gift for Houstonians of "today and tomorrow".

"But, I have even better news and that is the entire reach of the park is better than I think any of us envisioned when we started," Houston Mayor Annise Parker said.

The grand re-opening celebration was capped off with a fireworks show.
