METRO light rail crash drill held in southeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The METRO Transit Authority staged a disaster drill so realistic Saturday that some of you called us to find out what was going on.

METRO tested its response to a fake collision between a train and a tanker truck along a soon-to-open rail line in southeast Houston.

The emergency drill Saturday involved the METRO rail line, the Houston Fire Department and the University of Houston which is served, among others, by the soon-to-open southeast rail line. It's much needed practice.

"That way everyone is prepped and ready to go, and everyone has some awareness and we also see those holes that we have to work on," said METRO Director of Safety Walter Heinrich.

Emergency crews treated and removed a dummy accident victim and worked on other skills at the scene.
