Massive fire burns Katy apartment complex construction site

The flames filled the sky as crews worked to contain the fire at a construction site near Katy Freeway and Grand Parkway Wednesday morning.

KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- An apartment complex under construction caught fire Wednesday, sending thick smoke into the air and the flames could be seen from as far away as 10 miles.

It started some time before 6:30 a.m. at Partnership Way and Grand Circle Boulevard near Katy Freeway and Grand Parkway.

The fire quickly went to multiple alarms as Katy Fire Department crews on the scene were joined by crews from the Houston Fire Department.

Wednesday morning's massive fire near Katy Freeway and Grand Parkway proved to be spectacle from far away.

Two buildings and six garages were destroyed by the flames that appeared to spread as firefighters continued to spray water.

Other crews were seen hosing down the roofs of nearby structures to keep them from catching fire.

It wasn't clear what caused the site to ignite.
