Alvin man sentenced to 10 years in prison for 2021 assault of 6-month pregnant girlfriend

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for assaulting his girlfriend, who was six months pregnant with his child, according to Galveston County District Attorney Jack Roady.

Micheal Algeria,36, was arrested and charged with second-degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On June 8, 2021, sheriff deputies with Galveston County responded to a 911 call at a motel in San Leon.

The victim reported that Algeria had shown up in the early morning hours after arguing the night before and began to assault her, officials said.

Officials said that Algeria allegedly struck her on the head with a frying pan and punched her repeatedly in the head and face.

The woman also reported that Algeria pulled out a pocket knife and held it to her throat while pinning her down on the bed.

During the trial, which began on Tuesday, the victim testified about her abuse. Photos showing bruises to her face, neck, and back corroborated her testimony.

The jury was also provided with the knife allegedly used to threaten the victim.

The DA said that a guilty verdict was returned on Wednesday,and Algeria agreed to the 10-year prison sentence.

Algeria will be eligible for parole when he has served half his sentence.
