HOUSTON (KTRK) -- While we saw so much tragedy during Monday night's violent storms, stories of heroism are emerging. Four strangers risked their lives and swam through floodwater to save a stranded driver in southwest Houston.
Like many people across the Houston area, Steven Shannon stopped to take a look at the rising water.
"It was just meant to be," he said.
That's when he spotted a woman in a life-threatening situation off Memorial and Shepherd. Shannon and three other strangers immediately took action.
"We all swam after her," Shannon said. "I just didn't want to see the lady drown."
A bystander captured the rescue on video.
"The automatic locks wouldn't work, the windows wouldn't work and she was just trapped," Shannon said.
Thankfully, they managed to pull Glenda Reynolds and her dog from the submerged vehicle.
"I felt like I was going to die and I said so this is going the way it's going to be," Reynolds said. "I want to say to each and every one of those, thank you from the bottom of my heart because you saved me today. I couldn't swim and I couldn't get out of my car and I didn't think I was going to get out of my car."
The story is just one of many examples of Houstonians doing extraordinary things.
