Man attempts to light himself on fire near World Trade Center, police say
Jim Dolan reports on a man who police say set himself on fire near the World Trade Center.

LOWER MANHATTAN -- A man was taken into custody after dousing himself in gasoline and apparently trying to light himself on fire in Lower Manhattan, police say.

Officials say the incident was reported near West and Vesey streets around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The NYPD also put out an alert that they were investigating a suspicious package in the same area when they noticed a suitcase nearby.

NYPD Counter-terrorism units investigated and deemed the suitcase safe, saying it contained personal items.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital for a psychological evaluation.
