New details in woman's murder
Police will announce new details in murder of woman on Mother's Day in 2016.

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- Police will reveal more Wednesday about the murder suspect wanted for stabbing a woman to death more than a year and half after the killing.

According to court documents, Byron Lloyd Collins, 29, has been charged with capital murder.

On Mother's Day of 2016, Nataliya Shal, 50, was found stabbed facedown in her Baytown apartment. Court records show Collins is accused of trying to sexually assault Shal before the stabbing.

Police said her husband, David Englerth who is a truck driver and was out of town, called them asking that they check on her. He wasn't able to reach her by phone.

"People talk about soulmates. We were. No doubt," Englerth said in a press conference last year.

Officers reportedly saw her body through a window when they arrived.

Since then, the search continued for the killer. Police released this sketch of a suspect, but had no luck finding him for months.

Now, police have Collins in custody.

Investigators said he looks similar to the sketch released last year, and they do not believe Collins knew Shal before the killing.

Authorities are expected to release more details about their investigation in order to bring some long-awaited answers to Shal's family and neighbors.
