HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A despondent Harris County man attempted to take his own life, but was saved by a trio of Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies.
District 4 patrol deputies J. Coddou and M. Elizondo, and probationary patrol deputy S. Trevino talked the man down from the ledge of State Highway 99 ramp and Interstate 10 west in west Harris County.
On Wednesday morning, deputies responded to a 911 call of a 25-year-old man who was found sitting with his legs over the side of the State Highway 99 entrance ramp.
That part of the ramp is more than 100 feet above the ground. This is also the same location where another person jumped to their death earlier this month.
The man was threatening to jump when the deputies started a conversation to help the man feel more at ease and to get him to climb down from the ledge.
The deputies were encouraging the man that people cared and loved him, and with the support of his family and the deputies they would get the help he needed.
After about 30 minutes, Deputy Elizondo asked the man if he wanted some water to drink. The male stated he would climb down for some water. Deputy Elizondo and a Harris County EMT escorted him safely from the ledge.
The male was evaluated by medical personnel and was admitted to Harris County Neuro Psychiatric Center for a mental health evaluation.
