Dash cam captures iPhone thief dragging victim along with car
CYPRESS, Texas (KTRK) -- A college student is thankful to be alive after someone stole his phone and dragged him outside a car for several feet.
"I was just devastated," Cesar Bravo said. "I was really mad. I had so many mixed emotions about it. I replay it and wish I had told the guy I didn't have a phone and just walked off."
Bravo said while meeting a friend at Lone Star College's Cy-Fair campus, a blue Nissan Sentra approached.
"The guy pulled up on this side," Bravo said. "He said, 'Hey, I'm a student here at Lone Star. Could you please help me out? I just need to use your phone real quick.'
In a matter of moments, the suspect grabbed the phone and took off, but Bravo didn't let go.
"The entire time I was just hanging on to the steering wheel, and my arms were inside," Bravo said.
After the car stopped, Bravo says he kicked the driver, but that's when the people inside turned physical.
"The driver hit me multiple times on my cheek, and then the guy in the back, he scratched my face right here," Bravo said.
Bravo received scratches on his face and a swollen cheek and neck.
"After the fact, I realized it wasn't such a smart idea because I wasn't sure if he had a gun or a knife," Bravo said.
Lone Star College said the incident happened Thursday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. It said there were two males and two females in the car.
After reporting it to the college, the school sent out a crime alert.
The suspects stole Bravo's new $1,000 iPhone X.
One piece of technology the suspects didn't steal was his $20 dash cam, which captured the incident.
"It can save your butt a lot of times," Bravo said. "If someone tries to do a fraud on you by hitting your car, by saying it was your fault, this will cover you. If someone is trying to hit you or jump you, this will cover you."
Now, Bravo's hoping it'll lead to their arrest.
"I wouldn't have any nice words to them, honestly," Bravo said. "I would just say, don't hurt others. You got away with my phone, but you will be caught."
