Vandals slash inflatable Santa, Rudolph in family's yard

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The search is on for the person who stabbed an inflatable Santa and Rudolph in a Fort Bend County neighborhood known for its Christmas decorations.

Even on a weeknight, the Christmas decorations of Pecan Grove near Richmond are an attraction. It's been like that for decades. At John Minchew's house, the lights still shine, but there's something missing.

"For some reason Santa and Rudolph really made him mad," said Minchew.

He came home Wednesday to find his decorative front yard inflatables in a sad state. Rudolph was slumped on his knees and Santa was doubled over. After a closer look, it was clear it was no accident. Minchew checked his security camera and saw around 2:15am Wednesday, a knife-wielding man attacked.

"A guy came up, got out of his car and stabbed both of them," said Minchew.

He reported the incident to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office and turned over the video.

"I don't know why he did it, but he just needs Jesus in his life," said Brayden Million, his grandson.

Minchew, who is running for Fort Bend County Constable Precinct 3, hopes the person is caught. He hasn't had any previous threats, but says this feels personal.

"What happens tomorrow if he doesn't do it to an inflatable and does it to a real person?" Minchew asked. "He didn't just cut my lightbulbs or cut my wires, he stabbed my Rudolph and my Santa."
