Human smuggling chase ends in arrests
A total of 10 people, including a minor, ran out of the vehicle before two suspects inside kept going until the chase ended near Galleria, police said.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two people accused of human smuggling have been arrested after leading officers on a chase that started in Waller County on Thursday morning.

According to the Katy Police Department, at about 10 a.m., officers were in pursuit of a white Tahoe truck.

Police said inside the truck were the two suspects and 10 undocumented immigrants: five men, four women, and one minor.

As the chase continued, officials said the driver of the Tahoe pulled over on the shoulder of I-10 eastbound at Pederson Road and let the 10 occupants out before driving on with another person inside.

During this time, officers with Katy PD called in for assistance from the Houston Police Department and the Fort Bend County helicopter as the chase reached the Houston area.

At one point, the driver drove through wrong-way traffic while on the Westpark Tollway and then onto Fondren Road and Harwin Street.

Eventually, the driver pulled into a parking garage at 3009 Post Oak Boulevard near Galleria before surrendering, police said.

It is unclear of the location of the 10 immigrants who ran out of the vehicle.

Katy PD says they are waiting for the two suspects to be released into their custody before they release additional information.
