Police officers hand-deliver stolen packages
Maryland police officers returned stolen packages to their owners on Thursday evening.

COLUMBIA, MD (KTRK) -- They didn't have beards or red suits, but a group of Maryland police officers stepped into Santa's shoes to hand-deliver dozens of recovered stolen packages.

An astute citizen called police after spotting two men snatching packages from her neighbors' porches. Howard County police were on the scene within minutes, and the bust led them to a literal truckload of more than 70 parcels that had been stolen from 51 different households.

The next evening, HCPD officers went door to door to reunite the stolen packages with their intended recipients.

"In an effort to deliver great customer service to our community, we [decided to] complete the transactions and make the deliveries tonight to the 51 families here in Long Reach, and hopefully bring a little holiday cheer to the community," an HCPD official said in a press conference.
