HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A couple from Beaumont was shot at while driving on I-10 in the Houston area Sunday afternoon.

Charlie and Teresa Gould were heading westbound on the East Freeway between the East 610 Loop and Lockwood around 12:30 p.m. when they suddenly heard shots.

"The back window just shattered and Teresa said, 'Somebody is shooting at us,'" Charlie Gould recalled. "I said, 'Who's going to shoot at us? Who are we?'"

They thought it was debris, until they pulled over and found two bullet holes - one above their back window and the other in the front passenger-side fender.

Charlie opened the hood and found a bullet.

The couple does not believe they were targeted because of road rage.

"We were really just victims," Teresa said. "We were doing nothing to provoke it."

Charlie said he did not see anyone with a gun after he heard the shots, but believes it was someone driving next to them on the interstate.

Neither of them were hurt, but they were extremely shaken up.

"I felt so thankful and grateful that we were not injured," Teresa said. "I really felt that God had protected me, protected us."

Houston police said about an hour later in the same area of I-10, a woman was shot in the face. She survived the shooting. HPD said she did not know who fired at her either.

It has yet to be determined if the two incidents are related, but officers are investigating that possibility.

"I personally believe it is," Charlie insisted. "The same person isn't going to have road rage twice, I wouldn't think."

HPD says the motive for the double fatal shooting appears to be drugs.
