SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (KTRK) -- The donations are now on the ground in Puerto Rico where the biggest challenge is getting trucks, fuel and people to transport goods where it's needed the most.

Dr. Ricardo Flores and Mario Polo practice in Houston and are both from Puerto Rico. They made the trip back specifically to oversee the distribution of donations.

Each pallet loaded onto a truck is a little bit of hope.

Supplies head to Puerto Rico from Houston.

"Just seeing the suffering and devastation that our island has gone through in the last few weeks is very difficult to handle," Polo said.

The damage and devastation is easy to see, but the lack of basic resources outside of San Juan is hard to quantify.

That's why medical professionals are so eager to get basic supplies.

"There is no other place that we should be right now," Flores said.
