Coogs defeat Cincy, 33-30, move to 9-0 on season

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston Cougars (9-0) remain unbeaten on the season with a victory over Cincinnati, 33-30, at TDECU Stadium.

Greg Ward Jr. lead the Cougars with 161 yards passing, two touchdown passes and 119 yards rushing. Houston was able to out-gain the Bearcats on the ground, 266 to 66 yards.

On the defensive side, Brandon Wilson and Steven Taylor grabbed one interception a piece as the Coogs stopped Cincinnati late to secure the victory.

Coogs remain unbeaten, abc13's David Nuno has post-game comments.

Tied at 14, the Coogs struck first after the halftime break with a touchdown pass from Ward Jr. to Tyler McCloskey followed by a 51-yard interception return by Wilson that put Houston up 28-14.

"We just knew coming into this game we had to execute on every unit," linebacker Elandon Roberts said.

A big showdown is set for next week as the undefeated Memphis Tigers make their way to Houston to face the Cougars.
