Man used a ladder to try to rescue woman from house fire

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two people were taken to the hospital following a house fire in northeast Houston.

Firefighters were called to the 2600 block of Stevens Street just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, heavy fire and smoke could be seen pouring out of the second floor of the home.

A man in his 50s was on a ladder on the side of the home trying to reach a woman on the second floor.

Fire crews were able to rescue the woman and pull her to safety.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The man was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is not known.
