Senior citizens make special toys for Houston's needy kids

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It turns out you don't have to go all the way to the North Pole to find Santa's workshop. There's at the Parkway Place retirement home in west Houston.

A group of residents started the 'shop' as a way to spice up their day-to-day activites, then it evolved into a great pay-it-forward program.

Now, there are no hoverboards, or iPads. The men create wooden toys from hand and donate them to local children in need at the Buckner Family Pathways Center. They use simple two-by-four blocks of wood and patterns to cut out toy cars and trucks.

The group has only been in the shop since October. Last week, they donated 100 toys to children.

They hope to continue their 'workshop' after the holidays and create new and more intricate toys for next Christmas.
