HUMBLE, TX (KTRK) -- On any given night, gamers pack the house at Ettin Games and Hobbies, located at 241 FM 1960. In fact there's often a different game gathering each night. Think Star Wars Sundays and Magic Mondays.

But these gamers don't have their eyes glued to TV screens, nor are their heads buried in smart phones and tablets. These gamers are playing board games.

"Let's just forget about the technology for a while and just be here with the people," says store co-owner Dave Donohoo.

His message appears to be resonating with his clientele, who arrive each night eager to play with another. No blue screens here.

Donohoo, who is also a high school teacher, opened the store with his business partner in 2014. Since then he says he's seen steady growth.

"We continue to add new games all the time," Donohoo told Eyewitness News. "We also see a lot of return customers. Our business has grown mostly by word of mouth. I'm incredibly pleased with where we are, but it's not about the money. It's about creating a place we can all enjoy."

The store boasts an extensive list of multi-player board games, like Star Wars X-Wing and Dungeons and Dragons. And there old favorites with unique twist like RISK STAR WARS and MONOPOLY LORD of THE RINGS. You can even play games for sale before you buy. Most games run anywhere from $20 - $60.

"They pay for themselves over and over. The can last a lifetime. They help spark interest in history; help reinforce math skills and geography and logic. You're going to get more of that from these games than video games. But it is the human experience, that's really what we're about. It's fun. People like to get in here with friends and family," said Donohoo.
